Unhappy Coil Pack Woes

Hey guys,

My 2001 f150 w/5.4l V-8 has started acting like it about to lose another coil pack. The old girl has started running rough, out of the blue. This truck only has 63000 miles on it and this will be my second coil pack replacement in 20000 miles. Is this a common problem, is Ford doing anything about it, is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening so often.

Thanks

There should be a heater hose directly above the problematic #4 pack. If you put a better worm-style clamp on it, or seal the hose with a little RTV, you shouldn't have another problem. Good luck!

it is a common problem but one oversight is that it isn't always the coil pack but more the time the boot!! Boots are cheap and begin to break down with heat. over time they allow arcing through tiny holes so get a couple spare boots and have the codes read. keep us updated.

That is correct for the #4 plug!
