engine blues
Hi there fellow Forders I have a little issue with my 2000 F-150 4x4 5.4.
It seems when the ole thermometer breaks the -30 C (around -20F for our fellows south) my engine breaks up like I have a cylinder going dead and then firing again. Under load the engine breaks up but never consistently, its all over the bloody place.
What I've done so far:
Changed plugs
replaced three of the eight coils
tested the remaining coils (check out)
Could this be an injector problem???????
I tried gasline cleaner antifreeze etc no luck......
Checked wires and lines to injectors all seems to be ok
Help!!!!!!!
(oh yeah no codes at all)

Try cleaning the mass air flow sensor. My truck did the same last year when I had installed a Granetelli mass air, ( total junk.)It was leaning out the truck when cold. The mass air will often give drivability problems with out setting codes, also the tps and DPFE will create problems witout codes. For what ever the reason it sounds as though the truck is lean. I'd clean the mass air and check the air cleaner first, won't realy cost anything and may cure the problem.
Ok I'll Give that a try...would a K&N filter cause me grief like this I have installed one of those too and always wondered of the increased air flow would mess up the MAF sensor....
Thanks
Thanks
You can buy "air intake cleaner" in an aerosol can at auto parts stores. It is safe to spray in while the truck is running or not running. However, I've seen other posts on here with other methods for cleaning the MAF, although I've yet to try any of them. Try searching for "clean MAF" or "clean mass air".
