blower pullys

hey everyone my bro has a 2nd gen. lightning and was thinking about a cheap but big power gain for it and we were thinking a blower pully......so i have a few questions if some of you wouldnt mind answering them...
IF he does this.....will his truck still be AS reliable as before or will it be hard on the engine if he does not put more aftermarket parts on it to take on the extra power?
wat size of pulley is best
how much horsepower gain should he expect?
wat brand would u recommend?
thanx guys

Go with a 6lb lower, cold air intake and a chip.Should put you in the 400rwhp range and be good for mid 12s in the 1/4.Look in supporting vendors on the top of the screen.I've been dealing with Sal from PowerSurge Performance and i have to say he's top notch.

Anytime you increase the boost on a blower, you are forcing more air into the combustion chamber. This in turn raises the compression ratio and does put more stress and heat on the internal components. As a result, the truck may not be as reliable as in stock form. I am not saying it would start breaking down all the time, but you are increasing the chance that something could go wrong. If the engine can handle the particular boost that the new pulley can provide, chances are you will not know a difference in reliability. If it was me, I would “go for it” with the understanding that I have picked a pulley that is recommended for my application and that I may have some problems down the road.

>> how much horsepower gain should he expect?

This depends on the answer to what size pulley as it is related to the amount of added boost. As the boost level increases, the power will increase (along with the need for increased supply of fuel, higher octane fuel, better cooling) to a point. The engine can only take so much without additional modifications.

I am not an expert on trucks, but have spent plenty of time under the hood of Mustangs. Therefore, have no advice as to the size of the pulley on a Lightening. Word of mouth about what works is great information (like chimshady1 post above)

if my brother put a six # pulley on his stock truck how well would his eaton handle that much more boost? also i can see y you would want a cold air kit along with the pulley because u will b makin hotter air so u need it cooler to be more effiecient but y should he get a chip or is that just a mod u recommend for extra power .... is it a good idea to have it along with the pully too ?? thanx !

Give a visit to the lightning forum (a little ways down on the forums list) you can get alot of helpful info there.

From what I have read there, you want the chip because just adding pulleys isnt a very stable configuration depending on how large of a pulley you run (asking for a blown motor). It will also give you some more power on top of the pulley.
