okay. Now i'm absoloutely furious. Oilpan still WONT come out, and when i jack up the motor, it just goes sideways and forwards. Nothing's connected. So we figure it's gotta be cause there no tranny in it. We put the tranny in, for counterbalance. Motor jacks up fine, tranny hits floor before there's enough room to get pan out. I'm at wits end here. Rad is out, fan is off. When you jack the motor up, it goes crooked right away. The drivers motor mount goes up and to the left first, then followed by the passenger mount which goes left also. I've tried EVERY possible position on the pan, to no avail. JMC or Neil, I'll buy you a case of beer if you can come over here and show me what the HELLLLLLL is going on!

 

Call around and see if you can rent a cherry picker. this way you can pick the engine up level without it falling.

 

Use a come-along on one or both sides of the block and attach them to your lifting device. This way you can adjust and compensate for the tilting as you should be picking up the motor with opposing cables or chains anyway, aren't you?

 

HI!... Sorry bud. I would luv to help you out but I'm not very mobile right now. I've got 52 stitches in my knee and am in NO position to start climbing under a truck. I can't even work on my own truck. It's pretty bad when I have to have JMC install my WINTER tires because I can't bend down to do it myself.

Probably the reason you can't slide the oil pump out is because it is a rear sump pan and there is a long oil pick-up tube that runs from the oil pump at the front of the engine to the rear of the pan. It then turns into a 90 degree bend with a large cupped screen on the end.

 

Do not JACK the motor up ... lift it up via a device which attaches to the top of the motor. If it is still stock and hasn't been played with, you may still have the original lift points still attached to the motor that was used in the factory. Use those two spots and " L I F T " from there. If you jack the motor from below, you are only get one more thing in your way of getting the pan off.
