Help, what does this code mean!!!
Help, what does this code mean!!!
HELP! My mom's 2000 windstar with a 3.8 Has a CEL. I did the dash/tripmeter trick, and pulled this... "DTC 9676" WHAT is that! I looked all over the net, called rose city and performance Ford (the two 'bigshot' dealerships) and they have no idea what i'm talking about. What do I do now? Help!
I thought the only wat to get codes from an OBDII system is with a code scanner.
Take it to Autozone (it's free) and have them read the codes through the OBDII plug. After you get the code search here or ask.

The DTC codes from the odometer are not the same as OBDII codes...
Do you have an auto parts store near you? AutoZone is not the only place that will scan for codes.
I cant find that particular DTC anywhere...

johngs is right you cannot get obd2 codes from the HEC. That is why no one can find the code for you.
NAPA, pepboys, etc all should be able to read the OBD2 codes for you.
good luck-

The 96xx codes involve the PATS system (alarm system) for the vehicle.
I don't think you can get engine codes from that system, in your vehichle.
Unless you have a check engine lamp there is no problem with the engine.
The code from the dash is not connected to the engine operation directly.
The dash does however look at fuel supply, alternator output and other things that you might have a problem with otherwise and shows in both the dash codes and in other ways.
I have the same system in my 02 S-Crew and can read a bunch of things like digital speed in mph, engine rpm, battery charge etc. plus a whole lot of other data.

I have sent the info to your F-150 e-mail. I hope you have it turned on. BTW did you use a scanner to check what was causing the SES light. It could be something else. Have one of your co-workers pop the sacnner on the Windstar to check for any hard faults. I am not positive but I don't think that a B code will turn on the ses light. The 9676 is a B1676 code.
