truck dies on start-up when cold

Hi folks -

I have a '98 Expedition XLT 4.6L 4x4. It has occasionally started to die immediately after start-up when the weather is cold. It usually starts and stays running after 2 or 3 tries, but on Christmas morning it would NOT remain running. It acts like it does not have enough fuel. It was REALLY cold that day, and since it warmed up, the truck starts and runs fine. A coworker has an '01 Explorer and he said his did the same thing until the dealer replaced a sensor of some sort, but he can't remember which sensor it is .... can any of you give me an idea?

btw - I did do a search and didn't find any previous posts with insight ....

Thanks in advance!
Jim

Idle Air Control valve, most likely.

Very common cause for stalling or idle speed problems.

See the thread below on cleaning the IAC......This is something that will need repeating every couple of years; if you are lucky.

THANKS!

Thanks for the input! I've printed the linked post and will deliver it to my mechanic tomorrow when I give him the truck.

Really appreciate it! Sorry I missed all the other posts about this!

Best,
Jim
