Engine Trouble! Did Something Blow?

Since most the words to describe this are non-descript, I thought I had to do a post instead of a search.

Anyways, get about half a mile from my house, and all of a sudden it sounds like I have a flat tire. Quickly pull it into a neighborhood and the noise is still there. Sounds kinda like a lawnmower. I thought I must of split a plug or something, you can hear the sound of air escaping and a good bit of gasoline smell under the hood. I checked as best as possible in the dark with a flashlight and all the plugs seem to be in and fine. But in every stroke you could definatley a poof of air and the gasoline. Was idling around 900 rpm.

So.... anyone else have this problem? I have a 99 5.4l with about 93K miles. I'm gonna get it towed tomorrow considering I didn't think anyone would go out and tow it Christmas night. Just to get an idea, what the hell is wrong with my engine?

Well , hope you don't see it but take a look at each spark plug location for a plug that has blown out of the cylinder head.
With the engine running it should be apparent and won't hurt anything on a short time run to see if this has happened.
Just don't overdue it by letting a lot of gas build up and cause a fire.
The injector is still working wether the plug is in or not and the piston is pushing gas out the plug hole.
Good luck.

Lightbulb that's what it is

It's your spark plug. I had the exact same problem on my ranger. I was driving down the highway and boom, the plug blew out. It sounded just like a tire blew. I don't know why they do that. The plug's had been in there awhile. But the next day i changed all of them just to b sure it wouldn't happen again.

welcome to the club.
look for a broke COP. the plug may still be under it. once found you can unplug the injector and drive it. when my plug blew i drive about 15 miles home.
You will be able to fix it yourself with an insert kit.

Here is a link with all the info you need.
