Egr Valve ?

Hi, My girlfriend has a 2002 sportrac and the autozone's code checker said that the egr valve was bad. I replaced it, had the code cleared and now the check engine light is back on again. Anyone know of anything easy to check for?

Well first what code did it throw? If it was insufficient egr flow then likely you didn't need ot replace the egr valve. It may just need the egr ports cleaned. Another possiblity is a faulty DPFE sensor. Search the forum there are all kinds of posts and tips on this. It would help a lot to post the trouble code though.

hope that helps

Mike

Codes don't tell you what to replace but only serve to alert to a system malfunction that' s related.
Example, a code involving an OX sensor reporting a lean condition does not mean the sensor is bad but only has detected a fault in another area that affects what it reads.
The info on a code list does not say what to replace.
