5.4 Bottom End

Hate to keep asking more questions, but would hate to skatter the engine worse.

How does a stock bottom end on the 5.4's compare to those on the L's.? Is this the same block, Rods, pistons, etc.? Does a stock 5.4 have a sufficiently stong enough bottom end to withstand blower applications.? I only ask because I am looking at adding a blower. Probably a Kenne Bell or a L' setup must likely a KB. Although I don't intend to race this truck 2001 Screw 5.4, 3.55ls, auto 4x4 I do intend to pull 27ft 6200# approx. camper. I know that it will be pulling on some grades and would just as soon not wipe out the engine from lack of being informed. This truck is should be able to pull camper but was just wondering about what stresses a blower would put on it. It would only be pulling camper about 4 or 5 times a season. Bought truck to haul family would like to be able to pull camper with "MORE POWER". Thanks

I just took apart a bottom end about 2 weeks ago on a 2000 150 with the 5.4. I'd say go ahead and strap a blower on it if that's the route you want to go. The bottom end looks pretty stout with thick main channels and cross-bolted mains. I wouldn't think twice about strapping a charger on my 2003 5.4 if I had the money to do it.....

Cool

HI!... The LIGHTNING 5.4 longblock and the regular 5.4 longblock are IDENTICAL except for the pistons. The "L" 5.4 gets forged 8.4:1 compression pistons. The regular 5.4 gets hyperuetectic 9.0: 1 pistons. Most 5.4's come with a good quality FORGED steel crank. They are good for about 1000H.P or 1500H.P (flywheel) if prepped properly. I've heard of some 5.4's , mostly factory replacement engines that have come with a CAST crank. I've torn down and seen many 5.4's torn down and have YET to see anything but a FORGED steel crank in one. The weak link in the 5.4 is the crappy powder forged rods. They usually break between 450-500H.P. if RPM is not kept in check. The block itself when aquipped with ARP studs can easily handle 1000H.P all day long.
