starting problem
Hey there, I have an odd problem with my '96 F150 ,302 5 speed. When I try to start in the morning, or when it has been sitting for a while, I have to turn on the key until the fuel pump stops, or else there is no way it will start. Sometimes the pump will run for 5 seconds, and other times it will be upwards of 5 minutes. It does not seem to be related to air temperature, but it is hard to say. We did determine that there is no spark when the pump is running, but it is hard to get a good handle on what is going on, because some mornings you only have 5 seconds to do any checking. If I try cranking it over before the pump cuts out, I might as well go have another coffee and try again later. Once it is going and warmed up, it starts fine. Any ideas out there?
Not entirely sure on this one, But thought i'd throw something in, seeing as nobody's responded yet. Try looking at the fuse. It may be blown, Causing a weird situation. Do you have 40 psi Of fuel pressure?
The pump shuld run for about two seconds when the key is first turn from OFF to RUN.
Your PCM (for whatever reason) appears to be having difficulty controlling the pump circuit (and possibly more).
