Engine Programmers/tuners

I am looking at purchasing a programmer but am still a bit confused, I have looked at all of the posts in this forum but still don't quite know which one to get. I have looked at superchip, hypertech, diablo, I seen one now made by crane (the cam people) in Jeggs. Do they all pretty much do the same thing or is there something that one does better then the other. Hope to hear from some of you guys so I will be better informed on what is and what isn't. Thanks. 2001 Screw 4x4 5.4 auto

Skip, the programmers are all hardware that contain a program that modifies the way the engine power control module controls the engine/trans.
The differences between them is what options they will allow to be controlled.
More importantly it is the program that is installed in them for you to use that counts the most.
The same program installed in each one will still run the engine the same way.
The company that does the best job of testing and assembling the program to best do what you want is the winner no matter what name is on the programmer.

i dont kno about the hypertech od diablo but i have a superchips 1715 programer that has 3 settings...perf on 87 oct.... towing...and perf on 91 oct....i love it...i can change gear rations tire sizes shift points and firmness(although i used the superchips custom shift curves) and it works great.. my cousin had the crane one and he swapped out for a superchips..they work good but not as well as the others. it is more programmed for people who run their cams.

i had a superchip on my truck and i loved it,but i needed money so i had to get rid of it.i've never owned a hypertech or diablo, but my step brother had a hypertech in his 97 1 ton 7.3 and he went through 6 trannies before he found out the chip was killin em.took the chip out and it worked fine.and this all happened within a year so its not like he even went through 1 a year.

I have a 2001 supercrew and have a superchip 9100 tuner with a troyer custom tune {3 differant tunes} coulden't be any more happy. The nice part of a custom tune is that when you make future modifacations the tuner and truck can be retuned for any changes., also if you dont like some part of the tune or the way the trans shifts or converterlock up all this can be changed in no time, the tuner is always upgradable.
Check Mike out on the computerchip forum. H can't be beat. As far as trans problems on those early desals, they had problems serviving a stock engine let alone the extra power, Had the trans also been modified with a shift kit or valve body it may have had a better chance.
When you add cosiderable horsepower you can't ignore the transmission, it was designed for the stock horsepower. Hope this helps with youre desion.
