Not to step on anyones toes or correct anybody but I read that all Tritons (4.6, 5.4 and V10) can spit out plugs. I do think for some reason though, it's the 5.4 that is more common. I have a 2000 4.6 and I worry about this.

i have the 5.4 .have they fixed this in the 04-05 three valve cause im about to go trade for a hemi. if theve fixed it i would rather go and trade for another ford i like the truck but never have i owned a vehicle that has ever had this as a weak point!!!
The issue was addressed in '03 I think. At 47K you have nothing to worry about. Most of the blown plugs were on motors with 75-100K miles. and I'm sure we won't hear anything about how those motors were used (or abused). The newer motors have longer threads (more metal) where the plugs thread in. The old ones only had 4-5 threads holding the plug.
Could always get the Triton Big Cert kit and put steel inserts into the existing sparkplug holes. Did this opperation on a friend's 99 Lightning with excellent results. Have to use the full thread sparkplugs though. It's very time consuming but for less than $300 I think it's worth it. Pretty much fool proof with the way the taps are designed.
