Need new PCM?

My 97 F150 has the check engine light on, tried new O2 sensor and no fix. Dealer says it needs new PCM (Powertrain Control Module) $525.00 installed. Is he jacking me or could this be the problem? I heard they could flash this computer - does anyone know?
Can I buy an aftermarket alternative?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to know on what basis the (code) is indicating the PCM needs to be replaced. Then look on a code list to see this.
There are some codes that suggest the PCM "could" be the problem after other tests at done that points to this.

If the dealer will guarantee that will fix the probelm (no charge if it doesn't) then do whatever you have to.

Depends if you're a DIYer and have the time or inclination.
