Break in before Mobil 1?

I have a new F150 and always use Mobil 1 in my vehicles. My new Vette came with Mobil 1 in the crankcase. Do you need to run a F150 a few thoudand miles to break things in before using synthetic oil?

Hey Bob. Enjoy your new truck. This subject has been discussed a lot on this board and there is no consensus that I can see. What I did was run the factory oil for 5M to the normal oil change interval and then I switched to Amsoil. The truck broke in nicely in this way. But it might have done just as well if I had immediately switched to synth. I guess I'd say there is no big rush to go synth. It surely won't hurt your truck to leave the dino in until the first change. Then make your switch.

My truck consumes no noticeable amount of oil in the 5M interval. Can't beat that.

I've used a lot of Mobil 1 and it is great oil. Ran a VW GTI 250,000 miles on that stuff. I'm not using it right now because I've been unable to find 5W-20 or 0W-20 in Mobil 1. Have you seen Mobil 1 in either of these weights?

Thanks for the response. I buy my Mobil 1 at Wal Mart and I think that they generally stock those weights.

Bob,

I went 900 miles before I couldn't stand it anymore. I changed to Mobil 1 5W-30 and couldn't be happier.

There is a lot a mahooky going around that you have to stay with motocraft synth blend 5W-20, but it's a load of crap.

Mobil 1 is as good as it gets without going to Amsoil.

My truck has 8K now, and it broke in just fine. However, I did change the oil again at 3k to make sure that any possible filings or metal from break in were filtered out for piece of mind. But the biggest piece of mind came from having a quality oil in the block.

I would suggest you go to Amsoils website and read their articles on manufacturers warranties and the law.

Blessings!

I changed my oil first at 1200 with Motorcraft, last week I hit 3000 and put in 0W-20 Mobil 1....I really dont think it matters....if it bugs you to have dino oil in your truck right away, change it out, alot of guys on here have put ful synthetic in a brand new truck....go with your gut man....

I think the stock oil is semi-synthetic, and I don't think Mobil 1 offers 5w20, but I think the 0w20 is rated to meet or exceed manufacturer's specs of 5w20.
