fuel pump inertia switch

where is the inertia switch located on the passenger side kickpanel? And where is the passenger side kick panel? Is is really necessary to disconnect the electrical connector and disable the fuel pump when changing the fuel filter? I have a 2001 fordxlt150 with the V6. Is it easy acess to the passenger side kick panel and that inertia switch? Thank you

I do not mind spillig a bit of gasoline in my driveway. What I do is crawl under truck, spray fittings with WD40 or penetrating oil and disconnect filter, install new filter and then start truck. If you want to follow the proper procedure you have to relieve the pressure before installing the filter. This is done by attaching a pressure guage to the schrader valve on the fuel rail and using the bleeder attached to the pressure guage and draining the fuel into a suitable container. If your truck has been sitting over night most of the pressure has been released from the system anyways. I tried it once after the truck sat over night and a few drops came out of the valve. This relieve the pressure applies to situations where the truck was driven into the service bay and there is still 35 lbs of pressure in the system. In this instance it could casue a fire if that much pressure was let go and the fuel came in contact with a hot surface. These saftey procedures and cautions are put in place to protect the tech so he doesn't end up in the hospital with 3rd degree burns. Oh, and don't forget no smoking.
