airbag code 27

I have a 2000 F150 Extended Cab that has recently started flashing the airbag light. It is flashing code 27. Does anyone know what this code means. My friend accidentally drove the truck off the edge of the driveway (18 inch drop) and then it started flashing after that. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

airbag code 27

I have a 1999 F150 extended cab with the airbag flashing code 27.

Cruise control and horn works.

Transmission was just rebuilt at 53K (I don't drive it enough).

I know the shop disconnected the battery for some time, A mechanic friend said he thought it was the clockspring.

Can anybody tell me what code 27 is?

thanks

Lamp Flash Code (LFC) 27 description from the 2000 service CD:

Pinpoint Tests — Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

Pinpoint Test O: LFC 27/DTC B1884 — Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Warning Lamp Inoperative

Normal Operation

The restraints control module (RCM) has the ability to deactivate the passenger air bag under certain conditions. When the passenger air bag is deactivated, the passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) switch warning lamp will be illuminated.

The RCM monitors the PAD switch warning lamp for open or short to ground conditions. If the RCM detects an open or short to ground condition on the PAD switch warning lamp circuit, it will store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1884 in memory and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 27 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes

A PAD warning lamp inoperative fault could be caused by:

l an open or short to ground on circuit 1113 (Y/LG).

l a damaged or burned out PAD indicator.

l a damaged or inoperative PAD switch.

l a damaged or inoperative RCM.

l a blown PAD switch I/P Fuse 22 (7.5 A).

l an RCM internal concern.

////end CnP///

There is a set of diagnostic procedures on the CD to isolate the fault.

A word of warning - do NOT screw with the airbags or the system if you don't know what you are doing. They can injure or kill you if they go off while you are working on them!.

I would try deactivating the passenger side airbag using the key and switch and see if the light works. It may be a simple a burned out bulb (which apparently is not supposed to be replaceable).
