Maybe getting a 2003, Need Advice

I might be trading in my 98 for a 03 F150 XLT Supercab FX4 w/manuel shift on the fly 4wd. It has 33k on the clock and they are asking $20,526 for it.Is that a fair price? They are a no haggle dealership. It is very clean with a matching Century camper shell. It has the 4.6 in it .I have been very happy with my 4.6( Just turned 162,000 miles). I noticed the oil filter was on the side of the block visable from the front drivers side wheel well. Is this a Romeo engine? What issues have the 03's had. Thanks.

The price seems high to me by about $5k if it were private party. Depending on exact options, the MSRP on that truck was about $35k. It could be had new for $10k off last year, minus 33k miles of use. I'd be lucky to get $23.5k for my 2003 Screw Lariat FX4 with only 24k miles.

Keep looking or haggle on the price.

I just got done turning in my 03 leased FX4. That was basically a fully loaded FX4 with moonroof, captains chairs, etc.

I really hated to see the truck go. It felt solid as a rock, absolutely no problems with it.

Why did I turn it in? The buyout--the price I could buy the vehicle for at the end of the lease--was $19,600. The price was, according to several dealers I talked with, was about 4-5000 high. The real frustration is Ford wouldn't work with me on it. It was either buy it at $19,600 or turn it in. At that point I could buy a used one for around $15,000.

I ended up buying an 04 loaded FX4 supercrew for a consolation prize and getting out of the leasing trap.

There are ALOT of trucks out there right now. It's definitely a buyer's market.

I would stick your head under the truck and look for excessive dirt, mud, rust or a recently replaced part that's sign that someone may have gone off-roading a lot or damaged something. Also make sure it wasn't a rental vehicle as well. If it's in good condition I think that's a reasonable price.

I purchased a used 2000 F150 4x4 Supercrew about a year ago. I got it through a Ford dealership and had no idea tha it had been wrecked and the rear-end rebuilt til a few months ago. I found a "rebuilt sticker" on the inside of the rear door. Anyway, I've been having problems with my truck. I've already had to have the transmission rebuilt at 72,000 miles. There are major issues with the suspension and I'm forever hearing squeaks and feeling grinds when I make turns. The back window even leaks when it rains!
I'm finding myself having to do as much to the truck maintenance wise myself as I can to save money. I'm very new to the repair and maintenance on vehicles. Could anyone give me a tip on where and what type of automechanics manual I can get to give me step by step instructions on everything from changing the oil to fuel-filters and such?. I love my truck and I want to keep it. I just want to be able to do some service on it myself.
