Battery Light @ High RPM??

The battery light in my truck has started comming on at around 5,500 RPM. Any ideas as to why it has started doing that? I haven't notice the light coming on till recently. I really need to try adjust the shift points. I have one of the Superchip programmers. It seems like it is allowing the the engine to turn to hard. Any comments you guys have would be great.

Thanks,

The brushes in the alternator are "floating" at the high RPMs.

Alternator time...

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured it was going to be the alternator. How long do you think I have before it craps out?

It is already crapped out! And it is causing your battery harm so just replace it now. And maybe some underdrive pulleys will help in the future.

Could also be the brushes in the internal voltage regulator, they are replaceable for about 15.00. If you're going to pull the alternator anyway, have a look at the regulator which is bolted to the back of the unit. I had a 99 with this problem, and I just replaced the brushes in the regulator. That said, it was a little too late for me because the commutator in the alternator had been grooved from one worn out brush and I only got about another 20,000 miles out of it.

Many posts in the past with same problem. I think Bad ALT is the general consensus i'm afaid.

But nothing is an absolute.

I would make sure that the battery is fully charged every time I got home to minimise damage to battery from sitting around under charged for too long until you get the problem fixed.

I'm curious, why do you want to run your motor up to 5500 rpm? They didn't come that way from the factory, maybe the reason no one else has this problem. Your motor must be screaming at that rpm.
Do you race your truck?

Triton-Motors,
I would rather not turn it that hard. I usually don't, but in the process of getting around the idiots on the road I floor it from time to time and if I don't let off the gas it will not shift till around 5500. I am usually worst about turning it to hard the day after driving my 5 speed Mustang GT. I have had the Superchip program for several years now but I think it would turn that hard before the mod.

Does anybody have any suggestions to make it shift at a lower rpm.

Thanks for all the replies.

JOHNSON505,

When did you buy your 1715 tuner?

Tuners bought after mid sept. 2003 were 3 tune models and I know that they can change shift points as well as shift firmness.

Maybe the earlier 1 tune 1715 didn't give you that option. Check the installation book.

I know Mike at Troyer likes to see them shift at about 5200 and has said that the motor can take it, but the torque converter doesn't like it on a regular basis.
