headers

i used to have a 93 mustang GT, built motor- the works, sold it and bought a 2000 f150 XLT 4x4. i was wondering what the best way to go as far as headers would be? shorties or longtubes....sound and performance wise?

i have pace setter shorties on mine with performace exhaust from the cat back and it gave my truck a real nice rumble. As for performace they really dint do much at all but they sure gave my truck a real mean sound to it

If it is a 4x4 you will be hard pressed to find long tubes for it. Is it a 5.4 or a 4.6?

JBA, Gibson, to name a few make shorties.

for my headers they were around $310 and i installed them my self and let me tell you that was one job i will not do again. they were a pain. I was happy with the sound i recieved with them. I have the ceramic coated ones.

In general MOST EFI vehicles that run headers are short tube. Something about the extra distance can screw with the O2 sensors or something like that. Even in the 4x2's all I have found are shorties.

Before you buy any headers check the bottom nuts on the passenger side exhaust manifold for clearance. On my 2000 4.6 the middle two were blocked by the motor mount. They could not be removed unless the mount was removed.

4x4! Go with longtubes as they are designed to give more torque than shorties. I got Dynatech headers, midpipes, and cats! great fit and finish but they are not cheap!

headers
Cheapest place i could find was through them. Kook's also offers LT's. You'll have to call for 4.6 applications. And remember to much flow isn't good!!!!!
