what is a modular engine

what is the real meaning of it


* what is the difference from a regular engine?

i looked but didnt find the answer

Modular engines in the ford meaning is that the engine components are made to fit on more than one particular engine. Interchanagable heads, ETC.

"regular" engines used to have very specific components. A head from one type of engine even though it was the same size would not always fit onto another type.

It also has to do with the manufacturing process. The 4.6 and 5.4 v-8's can be made with the same tooling as the v-10 for instance.
