Someone give me some guidance.

Are the headlights bright or dim? Try jumping it with another vehicle. If the battery is drained it will not crank very fast or at all.

I had an 86 full size Bronco with a HO351 and an 86 F150 with a 302EFI. Both of these units had problems with the starter mounting bolts backing off resulting in lack of engagement from the starter to the flywheel. The starter on the Bronco almost fell off once because of this. I don't know if it's the problem you are having, but the starter will still whirrr away without being firmly attached. Also, on my father-in-laws 96 F150, he had to re-route the ground wire on his starter, as it left him stranded once or twice, could be something else to look into.

Lights fine, battery checks out. Cross selonoid wires will make it start. Why won't it start with key? in steering column maybe? that was part of the work this week? but so was the starter? too much. suggestions.

sounds like "jstang and rmeidlinger" have hit upon it.

This switch only allows the starter relay to ingage in neutral or park, and if I'm not mistake is mounted on the steering column, were you said you had done some work? Try that area.

I always figure after working on a problem that was not related to what I fixed was caused by me breaking it!

"Profound" or what?

Good luck!
