Smile 5.4 Liter Longevity?

I just purchased my 3rd Ford F150. It's a 1999 with 140,000 miles on it. A beautiful Navy Blue Lariat.

My First one: Purchased used, approx. 1985, manual shift black beauty. Standard Cab.
Second one: New 1997 F150 Lariat fully loaded flareside, perty white.

My 1997 F150 just got "Totaled" by a red-light running 4door Honda Accord who hit me broadside at 40 MPH, just behind the driver side door. OUCH! Spun me around and bent my frame, but I walked away relatively unscathed because of the size/weight of my vehicle and height off the ground. (The Honda is okay as well--Thank God!, because of a deployed airbag).

I had 243,000 miles on that 4.6 liter engine! I changed the oil (on average) every 10,000 miles, and had it tuned up once a year.
It was running like a dream. I was so darn proud of that engine. I really wanted to see it get over 300K.

Here's my question:

Does anybody have any idea how long a 5.4 Liter engine will last?
What's the record so far for this engine?

I purchased this vehicle, with it's high miles because my last 4.6 liter engine did such a wonderful job for me.

I'm not a mechanic but won't this 5.4 liter engine run easier and therefore last "potentially" longer than my 4.6 under the same driving conditions?

Appreciate your stats and thoughts.

Happy and Safe driving!
And remember this,...we may pay more for Gas,....But don't forget about the Life Insurance Factor. Because of the frequency of my in town driving,...(and interstate).... I see alot of accidents. Anytime I've seen a Ford F150 involved, the driver area has ALWAYS been well protected.

I've got 131k on mine right now and I feel the motor is just as tight as it was when it had 62k on it when I bought it....

I tow a #4500 travel trailer with it about once a month too. Well, during the summer anyway and a couple of times during the "off season"..... Does really well and I'm still making payments on it, and I'll have well over 200k on it before it's even paid for!!

Just keep the fluids fresh and it'll live a long life!

Good luck!

Mitch

700 shy of 200k....

99' 5.4

Old couple from california ran an intersection and t-boned them.

Ran strong, and dogged the SH?T out of her every day. So now im in the process of taking the truck apart. Prob would have seen 300k at my rate.

check out oil analysis numbers

I posted some my 5.4 oil analysis from '01 Lightning and '03 Expedition and both are excellent on Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synth. You can find these on bobistheoilguy.com and there are other reports there that shows very good wear numbers. So you should be pretty safe, wear numbers are down around where the jap motors are.
