What's your M.P.G. with the 4.6?

What kind of gas mileage should I expect with a 04 4.6l automatic reg cab?

:) I have a 99 4.6 5sp and when I was working I would get 18.5 every tank full with about 80 miles daily and 5 days a week. On trip of 500 or more, around 19.8. In winter 14-15. Drops a lot when its cold. Hope this helps. Jeff

I have an 01 S'crew with a 4.6, I get between 14-16 city driving, 18-20 Highway, and 15 towing a bassboat. But if the wife drives it she gets 20-21 in town. Different driving habits. I'm in it alot and she's not.

I need to have a coffee with you and your wife so I can find out how she gets 20 in town.:D

On the hwy at 60-65, 24 mpg; city, maybe 15.

The absolute best I've ever seen was 16.9 MPG on the road in my 2002. Remember, the 2004 weighs more so the motor will be working harder. The other thing you have to take into account is how you drive. I'm really light on the gas and easy on the brakes and still have never even come close to cracking 20 MPG. (I've gotta have coffee with somebody too.)

One last interesting note. The EPA mileage rating on the 2004 4.6 liter is identical to the 5.4 liter. Hmmm.

'04 MILAGE

'04 scab 4.6L 4x2 355LS back and forth to work all under 45MPH and stop and go 16.126MPG. Towing with overdrive off 12.25 MPG. Highway 65 - 70 MPH 19.34. I love this truck.

I had a 97 4.6 for five years. I had quite a few mods but i averaged bout 16-18 in city and round 20 on the highway. I only wish this new lightning got that good, best ive got so far is 15.5 on mostly highway miles.

2003 Supercab XLT 4.6 Auto 3.55 gears

17 mpg on mostly highway miles with a relatively light foot up to 70-75 mph. I've seen 19 before.

Worse I've seen was 15 mpg. Pretty consistent numbers I've seen on my truck.

My hacked airbox (with stock filter) showed no gains, but installing a 3" flowmaster (3 " pipe, dual exits but no exit pipes) showed roughly a .3 to a .5 gain in mpg.

1997 Screw 4.6 Auto 4x4 w/3.55 and Topper

Just ran my first tank of gas thru it and managed 14.8 MPG

That was mostly city with approx 50 miles pulling my camper. I'm also light on the Throttle, most of the time.

I changed the Eng Oil & Filter (synthetic), Fuel Filter (was restricted) and Air Filter (Fram AirHog) right after filling up today.

My acceleration improved drastically. Now I can't wait to see how it affected my mileage.

The best I have gotten with my 4.6 was around 23 mpg, and the worst I have gotten has abeen around 11 mpg. The best is stock with a bedcover, new tires, fresh oil, straight flat road for hundreds of miles. The worst is open pipes (no backpressue), old plugs, oil needs changed, tires in terrible shape and towing another supercab F-150 through the mud for about 15 miles, up a pretty steep mountainside. I doubt I'll ever see the good side of 20 mpg again, though, but in tip top shape, I'd say my 97 4.6 would get about 16 or 17 mpg, not bad for the size truck that it is.

1998 4.6L F-150

I get about 16.x miles per gallon with BFG (approx 35") MTRs.. this is a city/highway everyday combination.

In the past going cross country I was getting 20 MPG with the stock tires going on average around 80-85
