Question Missing Oil

Howdy all. Here is an interesting one. I have a '98 f150, 4.6 Triton. I do regular tune ups and oil changes but have been noticing a trend. I started measuring how much Oil comes out and I seem to be down about 2 quarts. I have no oil spots or noticable leakage. I am not bellowing white smoke out the pipe so it is nothing I can see. 136k on the engine. New Plugs and wires (8 monthes ago).

Did you check the dipstick before draining it? It is very difficult to get all of the oil out of an engine at an oil change. Sometimes it would have to drain for hours to get all of it out. You may never get the full amount out of it that the owners manual specifies as the capacity. I had an 88 f-150 that if you jacked it up highenough on the drivers side and let it drain for a couple hours, it would hold 7 quarts easily. Just a thought.

The oil filter will hold almost a qt.

White smoke is water not oil. Oil is blue smoke.

You have a lot of miles on the truck you prolly need to replace ALL of the PCV hoses and the PCV valve. The hoses may look fine but can be collapsed which inturn can cause the PCV system to suck oil off the top of the engine and you won't even notice it burning cause the cats do such a great job.
