DPFE Sensor
DPFE Sensor
Hello all,
New to the boards and have found them very helpful. Had one question about the DPFE sensor on my 2001 F-150 4.6L 34K miles. I think it still has the "crappy" one that is a black plastic thing. I have a insufficient EGR flow error. First is this the likely culprit and second, not to sound stupid, but what does DPFE stand for because I can't seem to locate it on any of the online parts retailers by that name (even motorcraft!)
Again keep up the good work guys and I hope I can help someone out down the road but the last ford I had was an 88 so not alot of those around anymore.
Thanks,
Mike

DPFE - Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation). The DPFE sensor is also referred to as the backpressure transducer (according to the Chilton repair manual)
How do you know you "have a insufficient EGR flow error"?
How do you know you "have a insufficient EGR flow error"?
Hello, i have a '98 4.6 triton, i have the same P0401 problem, what i've read the DPFE sensor it could give you the P0401 code, in my case i checked for the 4-6 volts in the sensor and it was fine, you could check for that voltage with the key turned on (engine not running) and look for voltage on teh sensor if it gives you 4-6 volts the sensor is fine and you will have to check other thing, in my case the sensor is working fine and i'm going to remove the throttle body to clean the EGR conducts(i have read that could be a possible solution), i think the 2001 don't have that problems with the EGR conducts.
Good luck
Good luck
The original crappy ones were aluminum, and bolted to the throttle body bracket I believe (at least on some of the 2001's)
There are several versions of the black plastic ones also. I had a black plastic one on my 2001 Gen III Screw, and it went bad at 32,000. Had it replaced under warranty with a smaller black plastic one.
They extended the warranty on that part on my 2001 an extra 2 years 24,000 miles on top of the factory warranty
