I am having trouble with my f-150 supercrew 5.4L coils and plugs. I starting haveing rough idle and thr dealer said it was a bad load of fuel because of all of the rain and flooding we had. Yet the computer said misfire on #7.

My question is how do i get to the coil packs and where are they located. i'd like to change them myself

I had one go bad on mine 5.4L @ 35000 miles, so Ford replaced it. I don't know if "Auto Parts" stores carry them or if they are "dealer items". I'm sure someone on here will let you know!

 

I assume your engine has "COP" Coil on Plug coils. In that case each cylinder has its own individual coil mounted directly on the spark plug. Before I purchased a new coil, I would be sure it is the coil that is defective by swapping the coil from cylinder #7 with the coil from another cylinder. Drive it for a few days and then have Autozone check the code to determine if the misfire moved to the cylinder that the suspected defective coil was moved to. If not, change the plug on cylinder # 7. If the misfire moved, it may be the coil, or it may be the insulation of the boot on the coil breaking down. The boot costs about $5. The coil costs about $50 at Autozone or Advanced Auto. Good luck!

the #7 plug is the second from the back on the driver side. you need a 7mm socket to remove the hold down bolt.
