P-1635 code unsure of meaning

Hey everyone I just got this code on my superchip and the booklet says it means tire/axle out of acceptable range and I'm not sure what this means. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The manual says that it means the tire size or axle ratio doesn't match the equipment package specs that are programmed into the "VID" or "Vehicle ID block".

I have the same code. I went from 3.08 to 3.73 gears and increased tire size from 235 to 255. Inputing the new values will put the numbers out of the range the ECM considers 'normal' for the factory program. I.e, my model truck does not come from the factory with 3.73 gears so the computer thinks the number is bogus. This particular code doesn't cause a CEL and is only stored internally to void your warranty.

I have the same code after uploading the Towing Perf program from my 1715 SuperChip - I posted about several months ago and everyone then (including Mike Troyer) said it was nothing to worry about. I tried accepting the defalt from the 1715 and even tried entering in the values manually - but it still occurs. I called SuperChips and they said they could replace the unit, but I do not have the orginal receipt. So I'm stuck with the code. It doesn't bother me except the Check Engine light stays on and that's just annoying.

markmoore80,

Your right about it not "hurting" anything but the new settings that are programed in are affecting your shifting points (if its an automactic) and of coarse your speedo cal.

Question for you?
When you tried to return to the stock setting tire size, did you enter a tire diameter or scroll down thru all the sizes to were it reads on the display stock?

I know that when I had mine and tried to return to stock tire size I just entered the diameter of the stock size, but the pcm didn't see that as stock, and someone told me to scroll (up or down, don't remember which) to where it reads "stock" for the tire size, and of coarse "stock" for the gears also. This got the code to clear for me.

Just FWIW.

Thanks - I'll have to give that a try. As far as the speedo being off, I have checked it. I just go do the interstate at exactly 60 and time how long it takes to travel between to mile markers - it's exactly 60 seconds (of course there is some margin of error with this method, but I beleive it to be accurate enough).

I'll try changing the tire size and diff to "Stock" and let you if that fixes the check engine light.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

OK, I set the diff and trie size to "stock" and no change. I have to admit, I must have had a major brain fart when I posted, I get the PCM error code, but the check engine light does not come on - it's the ABS light that I get. - - Old age is catching up with me

If you know of any other possibilities, then I'm all ears.
