Anyone use an gas or crankcase additive?
I've used Lucas, STP, Gumout fuel injector cleaners. They all probably have the same detergents as gasoline does, don't know if they actually help. I still pour one can in my tank from time to time.

Gas additive
I've been using 8 oz. of acetone in every other tank full. The reading I've done is available on lubedev.com and it speaks of advantages of acetone over other additives, particularly alcohol. The 150 octane rating for acetone is one plus, it also works with the fuel before and during the combustion process.
The writer has a Neon that gets 50 mpg; with clean oil, K&N OEM replacement air filter, Chevron 89 octane, new Motorcrafts plugs and Borg/Warner 8mm wires, I'm getting 24 mpg. I'm driving 65 mpg mostly without stopping on the highway.

I use Amsoil's PI (Performance Improver) It works great and is very economical if you use it all the time. The recommended dose is 1 oz per 10 gallons. That is after you run a clean up dose of 6 oz per 10 gallons. It comes in a 16 oz bottle with a flip top and measurements on the side.
I try to keep on in the door pocket. It fits in there just right.

50mpg in a Neon? Maybe on a down hill slope in neutral
Spray004, try reading the website articles at lubedev.com. The author uses the scientific method and, quite frankly, is believable. Articles promote thinking about other ways to improve gas mileage, for instance, 10W30 petroleum oil and 10W30 synthetic oil at the oil change (1 qt. synthetic, the remainder being petroleum oil).
One particularly interesting line of thought by the author is the differences of gas mileage based on the different types/sellers of gasoline. Albeit I don't accept a difference of 30% difference in some gasolines, I do believe there are significant differences in gas mileages based on the manufacturer (e.g., Shell, Chevron, Citgo, and Gas, Gobble, and Go).
I bought my truck used (137K) and it was pretty well taken care of by the previous owner. I'm pretty happy with my signature...

No, I don't credit acetone for the mileage alone. I trust the K&N does its part; manufacturers restrict power by intake and exhaust and I chose the cheaper of the two restrictions. I do believe the chemical reaction (I can't explain it) of acetone complements gasoline and increases power.
The Oil Drop
These guys are freaks about oils and are skeptical about additives but there are a few they are loving. One is called Fuel Power, another is Lube control and Auto-RX.
They swear by these additives.
Its a good board and also have virgin oil analysis and used oils analysis for quite a few oils and cars/trucks.
Science to back up extended drain intervals, and additive packages for different brands and formulations of oil.
They use a shorthand over there:
LC = Lube Control
FP = Fuel Power
ARX = Auto-RX
