Anyone add AC to non AC truck?

I have an 2000 5.4 XL that does not have AC. Was wondering if anyone has added AC to a similar truck. Any help would be great. What parts are needed? Where did you get parts? Was it hard install? Any guidence would be appreciated.

well i cant answer all your questions, but, youll need new HVAC controls, relays, wiring, switches. and thats just in the cab!! youll need a compressor, hoses, wiring, condenser, evaporator, etc under the hood. bottom line is it will take a lot of work and a lot of $, but if you want to do it, i would start at the salvage yards!

I'm up for the work.....I assume all the wiring harnesses are in all the trucks, so adding the relays and controls is no problem. Aside from that I will do all the work myself, this truck is just my winter/moving crap vehicle. I have my stang, the wife's taurus, and also a company vehicle, so time is not an issue. I assumed a donor vehicle or bone yards would be the best place. I just wanted to know if anyone has done this and may have a feel for what parts are needed. Or even a needed parts list. I should just take all the parts from my stang, as it is a ragtop, so I'd rather have the top down if the weather permits.

good luck to you, i do think a salvage yard is your best bet. i dont know enough about your truck to give you an exact list, but you can start with what i listed above. not sure if the comp needs to be progged for it, i know most fords have a WOT A/C cutoff switch. hopefully someone who knows more will pitch in!

I had AC added to a 94 Ranger after I bought it new from the dealer. The dealer did the install using all Ford parts. I think I paid like $900, and it gave me nothing but problems.

I was on my third compressor at 30K miles when I decided to sell the truck.

But that truck gave me a ton of other problems also...it was possessed.
