Starting Problem 03 Screw
Starting Problem 03 Screw
I bought a used 03 Screw 4.6L 4x2 with 13k on it at purchase time. About one month after I got it, I jumped in and started it, it immediately died. Started it 4 more times and it did the same thing, then it wouldnt start again for about ten minutes. Took it to local dealership and they replaced the idle air control valve. BTW didnt have the problem again before I took it in for service. The Service Writer told me if it happened again to depress the accelorator and that would bypass the valve and it would start right up. I think to myself, if it happens again, you can fix it again. Anyway, I digress. About a month or so after I got that "fixed" it did it again. This time I noticed that every time it started and died, the tachometer never moved. So, once again I take it in for service. This time they tell me that there was theft detected. They cut me two new keys. Everything works fine. Now it has done it again, about 28 days this time. Same thing, starts five times, tach doesnt move and then dies. I waited a half hour and now it starts fine. Incidentally, pressing the accelorator to the floor didnt work. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem or if anyone has any thoughts. Thought I got a great deal on this truck, but now I am just waiting for the engine to fall out! LOL
My 2001 supercrew 4.6 does the same thing on ocasion, I have installed 2 new idle air valves does the same thing. If I give it a little gas 1/4 throttle willstart right up. seems to do this at certin temperature usualy when the truck has set for about one hour. Never does it at first start up. Also at times will surge when put into gear and wants to stall, again at same temp. I have just learned to live with it, no big deal. I think it has something to do with the stock computer program. Just my thaught.
HAD SIMILIAR PROBLEM ON MY 2001- 5.4
TWICE IT DID IT TO ME COLD. STARTED RIGHT UP PROMPTLY DIED AND WOULDN'T RESTART.
FIRST TIME I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO FORD. SAT OVERNITE STARTED RIGHT UP FOR THEM.
NEXT TIME I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED.
TWICE IT DID IT TO ME HOT.
FIRST TIME AFTER ABOUT 20 MIN. IT FINALLY STARTED.
(BOTH TIMES IT STARTED FOR ME RPM'S WERE SLUGGISH FOR A FEW SEC. LIKE IT HAD FLOODED)
LAST TIME IT DID I HAD IT TOWED TO FORD THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NO IDEAL WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT!!!
2-3 DAYS LATER THEY TOLD ME IT WAS READY.
WHEN I ASKED THEM WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A RELAY.
I GOT TO TALK TO THE MECHANIC WHO ACTUALLY WORKED ON IT
AND HE SHOWED ME THE RELAY IT WAS ABOUT AN INCH SQUARE.
HE TOLD ME THAT IT HAD JUICE GOING IN BUT NONE COMING OUT.
ALSO THAT THE TRUCK HAD CODED THROUGH THE RAPID FLASHING OF THE THEFT LIGHT.
BELEIVE HE TOLD ME THAT THE RELAY WAS WAY DOWN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BETWEEN FENDER WELL & FIREWALL
SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM.
LEAST IT WAS UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER. TRK HAD LESS THAN 30000 MI.
TOLD ME THAT IT HAD PROBABLY BEEN THE PROBLEM ALL ALONG
HOPE HE' RIGHT!!!!!!!

Took it in to the dealership and they couldnt find anything wrong...big surprise. Said it didnt even give them any codes. Next time it happens I'm going to immediately have it towed to them and then they should be able to get a code.
