Question engine size for 1997 V-8

I was looking into Chilton's repair Manual today. According to the manual the 1997 F-150 had a 5.0L engine. I have a 1997 with a 5.4L . Does anyone know if this is a late '97 model or a '98 year engine? Also according to Chiltons book the '98 year 5.4L has a oil capacity of 7 quarts. I bought the truck used with 56,000miles on it and bought the owners manual on Ebay for a 97 model.
Thanks for any responses.
Terry

I have a 97 with a 4.6 V8, maybe the 5.0 was still an option in the F-250, but I don't think it was offered in F-150s.

The 1997 F150 V8 lineup was either the 4.6 liter or the 5.4 liter.

The 5.4 liter engine will take 6 qts of oil, 7 if you have a remote oil filter.

The 5.0 liter was not an option in a 1997 F150.

My 97 4X4 has a filter location under the left front bumper. Is this considered to be a remoter location. The reason after a oil change and refill with 6 quars of oil. The oil level on dip stick is app. 1/2 between add and full. Is thier a special note in the owners manual or is this a general note about the 6 vs. 7 quarts oil capacity. Thanks for the information.

Late in 96 Ford was still producing the old style F-150 along with the new body style.
You could order both in 97. Just like in 04 you could get the Heratige or the new style.
