oil drain plug torque???

oil drain plug torque???

Does anyone know the torque for the oil drain plug?

Nope, I just turn it till it is snug and add 1/8th of a turn.

Don't bother torquing it. It's very important not to over-tighten it and strip it out. It should just be snug.

change gasket regularly too

change your oil drain plug gasket (washer) every 2-3 oil changes. If you are posting this because of a drip from the plug, a new gasket will solve it. If it still drips, try a different type, like cork and rubber or nylon, if yours is metal, for instance.

Thanks for the info. No, I am just bad on 'snug'. Love the torque wrench it gives peace of mind.

This is a kind of classic pro and con analysis:

Too loose - a slow leak that is obvious and visible, and correctable


Too tight - a totally f@#$ed up oil pan


THEREFORE - snug, and observe!

Ok, if you only feel comfortable with torquing it then the spec is 98-143 in/lbs of torque. I looked it up this morning.

Get a fumoto drain valve and will never have to worry about it again!
