Exclamation Here's justification for a filter change

I changed my fuel and air filters last week at 20,000 miles. I also cleaned the wires on the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. I had intended to do this at 15,000 but we all know that time is in short supply lately and for some reason or another, production of it is not scheduled to increase in this lifetime.

I have picked up about 1 mpg in fuel mileage. This is after only one tank though so I need some more data. I did fill up the tank within 10 miles of the filter changes though. The idle has smoothed out considerably and acceleration is awesome.

Here's what I found when I tapped the fuel filter on a clean paper towel to see what came out with the fuel that was left in it...

I used NAPA Gold series filters as the replacements. Part numbers are 6418 for air and 3595 for fuel. I was going to get a TrueFlow foam filter element but looking at their dyno graphs doesn't impress me. Unless I am looking at them wrong, the torque and hp are actually lower than stock until you get above 2500 RPM. I run my truck lower than 2500 RPM unless I need to pass someone. I have had a K&N in the past and I had an AFE in my old '00 F-350. They let in the air... and a lot more...

Let me know if you want me to post the air filter photos.
