Has anyone updated their computer codes?

I have a 2000, F150, 4.6L with a 4R70W transmission. I have never had any computer up dates done. Does anyone here have experience with the computer up dates that are available from Ford and if so, will they comment on them? Several dealerships close to me have not offered much information as to what can be expected from these up dates beyond telling me that they have come out a couple of times a year since the manufacture date of the truck and that by scheduling with them the up loads can be done while I wait.

Thank you in advance.

Most posts I've read on this topic have been from people who were unhappy after a "dealer reflash". ( at least that is the way I remember it) I did a search on ...dealer reflash.... :

https://www.f150online.com/forums/se...der=descending

Some people seem to be VERY HAPPY with the reflash. Read the posts and decide for yourself.

Good Luck,
Bill

if your happy with the way your truck is performing dont mess with it. If its not broken dont fix it. Never know when your going to get a "new and improved" flash that turns to garbage.

Thank you all for the replies. Each of you made a strong contribution to my decision to not reflash. I was looking for some way to better correlate demand downshift points while in cruise control. I may be looking for something that aint and the truck is excellent when operated with the foot. I'll just keep it the way that it is.

Also, FWIW, four dealerships could not or would not tell me if there were any updates to be had. The best they would/could do is say that we charge X (between $37 and $65) to reflash and you get whatever the reflash gives.

Thanks again for your input.

George,

I have the same motor and same tranny in my '98. I HATED the way the tranny shifted( really the way it almost refused to downshift under load).

I installed the Superchips tuning (1715) and now it drives the way it should. It's really fun to drive. Scroll down to the Computer Chips Forum and read all about it.

Good Luck,
Bill
