resetting computer after installing a kn filter

waht is the purpose of resetting the computer after installing a k&n air filter. and this is done by disconnecting the battery?

can you put a 9volt battery in the accessory socket to maintain radio stations?

Why would you want to reset your computer if youre just changing air filters? There is no need to.

No, you must deplete the energy in the system for the CPU to loose power and reset.

Also, it is a good idea to reset the CPU after any "performance" mod as it will decrease the learning curve of the CPU. I have also found out that if I reset my CPU it tends to get better fuel milage for about 8K miles when it tapers off...

I reset every 5K when I service the truck.

I'd restart your computer after doing any performance mods aswell to allow your computer to account for any changes. Just disconnect your battery, turn your headlights on for 5-10 minutes to drain the power, and reconnect. When first starting your engine back up you need to allow it to idle for atleast 5 minutes before taking off to relearn the idle properties. (check your owners manual for more info.) Your engine verywell may feel different for the first couple hundred miles as it relearns your driving habits. (i.e. your engine may idle slightly lower or higher.)

I did this also when I got my K/n filter. At first it did not seem to run right when I just "Dropped it in", then I read these posts and by golly did it work when you disconnect the battery, the truck run's so much better and I did not have to reprogram my radio at all. Thank you for the help everybody!!!!!
