Angry Blown Spark Plug

I have a 2000 F150 XLT Supercab with the 5.4 Litre engine. This saturday on my way up to Greensboro NC it blew the second to the last spark plug with the coil. I took it to a dealer in Greensboro to have it diagnosed (not knowing at the time what the problem was). They wanted to charge me $3200 to rplace the Cylinder Head and associated hardware. I need to know if anyone out there has done cylinder head replacement on a 2000 F150, where you got the cylinder head from and if you used BIG-SERT on the rest of the threads as well. Once it was done did you have the problem again. Also it would be nice to know if anyone replace one side and the other side eventually did the same thing. I read the thread on BIG- SERT and went to the website to order it.

For $3200 I'd just buy a new engine.

For those of you who have had the blown spark plug, how did you determine that the head was not cracked?

i doubt the head cracked. get the bigsert kit and fix it with an insert. read the thread on blown plugs and use the tips.

carmonp,
I may have read your post wrong. But you don't need to replace the head AND do the Big-Sert replacement. Don't pay for a head replacement, until you read "syncmasters" thread posted above. Here it is again:

syncmaster did a real "public service" when he started that thread. At the end of it he actually shows you how to do the repair! Is America(and this site) great or what!

Good Luck,
Bill

Edit: Part of what makes America(and this site) great are our knowlegable and helpful neighbors to the North

Thanks for the posting guys, I read Syncmasters posts and they are very helpful. My main concern is how to determine if the head is not damaged without having to mortgage something. I plan on getting the BIG-SERT kit and putting inserts in all 8 holes. Thanks to everyone who has had this problem and documented it on this site, when the problem happened I was almost suckered into forking up "BIG Bucks" and would have gotten Whamied again thank you everyone.
