Triton v8 question
Triton is nothing more than a catchy name to sell trucks. The Triton family of engines have a lot of common parts which saves money. The 5.4 is a stroked 4.6. They are also designed to be more efficient and emissions friendly. The stroke bore ratio and rod length are designed for efficiency/power.
The new chevy engines have a lot of common parts too. Chevy just cuts a cylinder off to make a smaller engine, hence the 6 cyl, 5 cyl, 4cyl engines in the trucks. Not to mention that it is cheaper to build a staight 6 with 4 valves/cyl than it is to make a V6 with 4 valve/cyl., since you have two heads to deal with on the V.
Chevys 5.3 is a stoked 4.8.

for cheap power...
true, the engine will run on 4cyl if it over heats to save the engine from getting too hot. it is a new saftey feature. also, if you want premium performance, put in new bosch plugs. regaurdless of what the book says, always gap your plugs at .045. it will make at least 12 more hp according to the dino. thanks
I think you mean if it runs out of antifreeze, it will operate on 4 cylinders, the other 4 acting as "air pumps" to cool the engine. If you run out of oil, your going to cook your motor. Also, with the fail-safe cooling, I bet you can't go that far. It's more of a get you to the next type of town thing.
