trying to help a freind.he has a 2000 f-150.he says when his engine is cold it idles rough and sometimes dies.looking for any help.and thank you in advance

 

Sounds like the IAC valve (idle air control valve) needs to be cleaned. A friend had the same symptoms and that cured it.

 

IAC is the best place to start, you can start by simply cleaning it (should be easy enough to do yourself), and if cleaning it helps for a short period of time, you should replace it.

Could also be the ignition system (spark plugs, coils, wires).

What engine does he have?

 

just cleaned mine, problem solved

 

the engine is the 5.4.i have passed on the info on how and what to do.the truck just had a tune up plugs,fuel filter and whatnot pretty sure this is it.thanx for the advice
