Expedition engine swap

I replaced the 5.4L engine in my 99 F250 Superduty with a new one and have now begun to tear down the original engine to see what exactly went wrong with it (it was consuming massive amounts of oil and was severley down on power - looking like it may have been sticking rings..).

Anyway, I was thinking that if I rebuild the engine's rotating assembly and heads I could have a fresh long block ready to swap into my 97 Expedition which is also a 5.4L.

I had heard that the 99 Superduty engine would be a "PI" engine and the 97 Expy engine is not. Since I'm not 100% sure what exactly makes an engine a "PI" - something different with the heads I heard?? - I am wondering if there would be some difference in the blocks and/or heads between the two engines that would prevent such a swap. You know,, like will the intake and exhaust manifolds and all the external stuff from the a 97 Expy engine bolt onto the 99,, then would the 97 Expy computer work with the "PI" engine??

Thanks guys,
Bob

The heads are different so I don't think everything will bolt up perfectly.
