This idea makes sense. If your dipstick is up to snuff then whatever you drain out isn’t an issue.

Gearhead99's got it 2 - 2 1/2 quarts and you are off the stick, but you still have oil and oil pressure.

Craig, if you are sure you got all the oil out of that used filter, then I ask you pull out the Anti-drain and place it on your couch for a few days. If you only came up a quart low my guess is you only burned 1/2 a quart.

Thats good to know. Thats what i was thinking too. It has done this since it was new. We just watch it for safety. We change oil at 5k intervals.

It's typical for a 5.4 to burn a quart of oil every 2500 miles. It may be due to low tension rings to increase efficiency. (my guess) My 2000 has burned a qt. every 2500 miles until 80k. I used 5w30 Havoline for the first 10k or so and switched to Mobil 1 5w30.From 80k to 85k it burned 1/2 qt. Maybe it took 80k for the rings to finish seating?!? 88k and counting now. I need to check my oil to see if it is a qt. low.

My last truck was a 5.0 94. I bought it used with 35k on it. I drove it from NC to Illinois to a job and it burned almost a qt. on the way. After that, it would go 5k and still be full. I guess the trip finished seating the rings. It had 92k on it when I traded it and it was never more than 1/2 qt low when changing it at 5k using Mobil 1.

I only got 9,800 miles on my truck so I’ve only changed my oil three times. It’s at the same level on the dipstick after 3,000 miles each time before it is changed = doesn’t use oil!
