K&N Oil filter

I just changed my oil with Mobil 1 5w30. I bought a K&N oil filter (pricey) but what the heck. When I started it up after the oil and filter something was odd and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

So I sat there with the truck idleing and then it struck me, it was quieter. I used have what I thought was a fuel injector tick for quite awhile and many oil changes. Now it's gone.

I have always used Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filters. I am now really perplexed. What's in an oil filter that can cause a ticking sound? The anti-drain back valve?

Odd, really odd but nice. Has anyone else had this experience?

What oil did you take out? Dino oil?

Mobil 1 is good stuff and will certainly lubricate your engine better than dino oil. I experienced the same quieter running when I switched over to synthetic as well. It is purely a "seat of the pants" measurement for me, but it did seem to be quieter.

My guess is that the Mobil 1 is just working better than your old oil did.

I don’t doubt the fact that your engine is quieter, but oil filters can’t cause a tick, there’s no moving parts.

As I read the posts and comments that's just what I was thinking as well...The oil flows through the filter...it should be quiet...

Just curious, if there no moving parts, then why do they have an anti-drainback VALVE in the filter. Every valve I have seen, has moving parts. How does a valve work without moving parts?

I drained out Mobil 1 5w30 and poured in Mobil 1 5w30. That's the only oil I used since 1000 miles after I bought it new.

You all can raise the BS flag as high as you want but I know what what happened. I can't explain it. It's a cause and effect situation. I ain't trying to sell you on K&N oil filters as they are pricey. I do know that a sound I have had for the last 50000 miles. Simply went away and the only thing different was the oil filter. Hey, I like it. I just wanted to pass on my positive experience.

Somewhat off the subject, but I used to use K&N oil filters. I bought it from Advance. They supposedly have a one year warranty or something like that. Anyways the morons there didn't know what the warranty covered so needless to say I got 3 free oil filters until someone over there actually realized what idiots they were.
