Ole Blue still sick

Having trouble with a 99 S-Cab, 5.4, Auto, 120k, new computer at 110k, new instrument cluster & intake cleaning at 119k.

At about 110k it started dying while driving for no apparent reason, would start back up no problem, just shift to neutral, cycle key off and she'd fire right back up, even when rolling. My concern was and still is that this could happen going around a hairy curve somewhere, possibly sending me off the road.

Now it's spitting out a u1262 code when it dies, but this only happens once or twice a week. My mechanic since replaced the instrument cluster, but still getting that same code. From here , U1262 - SCP Communication Bus Fault.

Anyone have any ideas? Co-worker mentioned a bad coil pack on this, but that'd show a different code right? Another guy mentioned the ignition switch, but you should be able to recreate that by monkeying with the ignition? I still have a gut feeling that it's some sensor in the transmission telling the computer to shut down, because I've been able to shift to neutral and restart without cycling the ignition but who knows, I'm not a mechanic.

U codes are bad mojo...U technically means "Undefined," but in Ford speak, those codes designate problems with the SCP and ISO 9141 network. The HEC module runs off the SCP network. Check pins 2 and 10 at the DLC and the wiring leading away from them for any damage. Make sure the HEC is firmly plugged in and inspect the wiring from it. What's happening is intermittently, the PCM is losing communication from the HEC module via the SCP network, circuits 914 and 915.

If you had access to an NGS, you can perform a network test that'll verify the integrity of the SCP and ISO networks, then we can go from there. In the meantime, check pins 2 and 10 at the DLC and the wiring at the instrument cluster.
