6.8 V-10 will not ide when cold...sometimes??

OK, so it isn't my truck this time...it is my motorhome, but I hope it is ok post here anyway....

I first noticed it a couple few weeks ago while I had it parked at work on a VERY slight uphill incline. When I came out to start it, it died the first couple times when I let off the gas...I though that was odd but didn't worry much about it because if seemed fine for several days after that. When parked at home it would start fine in the morning but starting it at work in the evening (a few fridays in a row)kept causing the same problem. Last week it did it again at the race track...after keeping the RPMS up for a couple minutes pressing the accelerator (to either get the fuel lines primed again or the engine warm, I'm not sure which) it will run fine. Heading to the track Friday it died four times leaving the parking lot at work and then it was fine. A friend at the track suggested a fuel filter and went and picked one up for me and we put it on... the old one was very plugged, I could barely blow through it...so I thought we had it figured out. The next morning it started right up and I drove it home. Tonight I went out to start it and it did the same crap again! Now I unhooked the battery to reset the computer...I don't know what else to try. Any one have any ideas? It is a '98 Tioga with 24k miles. And the service engine light does not come on so I have not tried pulling codes. Thanks

hey man i would try changing the fuel filters and maybe taking the intake manifold off and getting it acid dipped cause it may have alot of deposits on it keeping it from idling but any of those would be worth a shot

Sounds like your idle air controller may need cleaning. Take it off and spray it out with throttle body cleaner. This usually helps for a while.. Also check around your throttle plate for carbon buildup and clean it off with coating safe throttle body cleaner.
This is a common problem and an easy one to fix. From here the problems get more involved..
Good luck
