I think that as long as your computer is adjusted for the lower temp stat, then at least it will set the air/fuel mixture correctly....

Running the cooler temp might not burn off as much of the "crap" that internal combustion engines produce by just running them in general.... You might have more deposit buildup in the intake, egr and on top of the valves then normal, but then again, maybe not......

If you are still using the stock water temp gauge, you probably won't see any change in it either....

All the cooler stat does is fully open sooner. It's still up to the rad to be able to keep the flowing coolant cooled down sufficiently enough to maintain a 160* engine temp. If you are working the engine hard enough, and it's a really hot day, you might see the engine temp go to 180* and above anyway (well, if you have the stock gauge, you won't see this..) .... What happens is that the coolant is flowing through the rad so fast, it does not have as much time to dissapate all the heat that it can before it starts it's journey back to the engine.

Since you don't seem to be having any issues, then I'd say you are probably fine.... I think the real problems occur when you put in the cooler stat and the computer is not adjusted for it and it's still expecting a 190* temp.....

Good luck!

Mitch

Well there is some controversy in using a 160 degree thermo. The engine designers built the engine with tolerances that work with the stock thermo. Not allowing your engine to properly warm up COULD prevent proper sealing and clearences. Again it is never agreed upon but i plan on running a 170 degree thermo and that seems to be the norm. just my 2 cents
