need help with non-ford ?

My girlfriend has a 2000 Olds Alero it quit on her Wednesday like it ran out of gas, it had a little under a 1/4 tank so we added some gas and it would start run a couple seconds and quit. I figured the cheapest thing to try was a filter so I changed the filter, afterwards the car would start run a little longer then quit after about the sixth try I gave up. After about thirty minutes had passed I was talking to a friend and he was asking questions about what the car was doing so I tried starting the car again it started and ran perfect and has until today. Today it was running fine then it started dieing like it ran out of gas again, after letting it set a few minutes it would start and run a little while and die again, finally we let the car set for several hours when we returned to get it started right up ran about 15 miles never tried to die, miss, or anything.

Her dad has a Dogde Caravan and he replaced the fuel pump because his van was doing the same thing, one night they called us to come get them because it had died, we were an hour away after that period of time it started and they made it home.

So my question is after he described what his van done he thinks it is the fuel pump. Have any of you had any vehicles that acted the same way and if so was it the fuel pump or something else.

I think she just needs to buy a Ford, but I have got to get this one fixed first any info would be greatly helpful.

Yep, sounds like a fuel pump.
