sounds like the oil got contaminated by 1 or 2 of the known coolant to oil leaks common to 97 4.2L. bearings have worn and now needs a new motor.
one thing to try would be seafoam maybe there is just some loose carbon bouncing around in there.
but you sould get a couple techs to listen to it and see what they think.
