guages for dummies...
do the 04' f150's still use the dummy oil pressure and temperature guages? i'll be in the hunt for a new f150 next year and .i'll be damned if i'm gonna spend 30k on any vehicle that continues to insult me with these guages. by the time one of these guages goes off your already screwed. i wanna know if my truck is running @ 195 or if its running @ 220.
Unfortunately, yes. Nothing short of a Marauder or a GT uses real, legible guages as far as I know. Yeah, this sounds real good:
"My engine's running hot. The guage is reading high."

it's one sad scenario when the Ford Techs don't get it and continue to insult the truck buying public with those gauges. It
wasn't til i bought mine that i found out about the lame gauges
To put in a oil pressure gauge that doesn't gauge anything
tsk tsk tsk ... even worse is the rearend shudder they've known
about for three years now... i deal with it though 'cuz i just love this rig..

Is it possible for them to do it for aesthetics reasons? There is a GOOD reason Ford uses dummy gauges, im not sure what it is. My gauges have 3 numbers on all of them (except the speedo and tach, for you smarta$$es), maybe most folks don't want all that. It is probly more likely that if people could see the the change in oil pressure from cold to hot, idle to rev they would freak out and ford would be inundated with warranty 'repairs'. The temp gauge of yalls is not so much a dummy gauge, it goes up when its hot and down when its cold, as opposed to the oil gauge.

DODGE, when i tell you my temp guage hasnt moved in the three years i've had this truck i mean the guage HAS NOT MOVED. other than the start up when it takes about 8 seconds to go from rest position to the same old spot its always in. i swear you can see a tan line on the guage board from the shadow of this freakin needle and it aint a sexy tan line either.
now i ask you, if thats a functioning guage wouldnt you expect to see SOME difference in position. i mean christ i live in phoenix where a typical summer day is 115* and a typical winter day is 50*. it dont budge no matter what the temp!

Marauders have really nice silver faced Autometer oil pressure and battery volt (or engine temp, I don't remember) guages. Hmmm...might have to check with parts on those someday...

I thought they were real gauges for temp, just without numbers.
Somone has to make a cluster that fits in and plugs into the tach and speedo, and then has sensors for all the original non gauging gauges.
You must have a broke temp gage. On my 2000 F150 the temp gage works (almost) like a real one. At startup it shows cold on the bottom. Over the next 10 minutes as the engine warms up the needle slowly climbs to the half way mark. It's there the gage becomes dumb. It will stay at the 1/2 mark until the engine goes into serious overheating (>250deg) then jumps up to the red line.

okay yours takes 10 minutes to do what mine does in about 8 seconds. who's got the broken temp guage again?...lol
and that guage will not go above 1/3 up the dial (or in your case i guess 1/2) unless you have already begun to over heat. then it just jumps straight to red. there is no point of having the guage at all since as i was told by a ford dealer "the guage will read red at about the same time you see water and steam all over the windsheild. comical.

It is odd that such a simple thing can be made so inaccurate. Temp gauges aren't rocket science. I guess it is fortunate that I haven't over heated yet to know how my guage is going to respond but now I'm not feeling too confident in it
I had a 95 wrangler with the same type of gauge but it was good at showing the temp even though it didn't have numbers. It showed me slightly over heating and climbing to really over heated as I went up that hill then on the other side I let off the gas and coasted down and watched the gauge slowly edge back down. When I turned the heater on the temp change would register on the gauge. I could tell by the gauge when the thermostat opened up. I was hoping this truck would be at least that sensitive. I trusted that jeep's temp gauge with no numbers. It got me to pull over serveral times before temps got too high. I think I'll watch the gauge later today and see if it goes up so far then drops down when the thermostat opens. If it doesn't then there is no doubt these are useless gauges.
