Here we go again!

Well I thoght every thing was fine till the other day I was coming home from the lake and was lookin at the river and almost rear ended some guy. After i jamed on the breaks about a mile later I noticed the oil gauge was jumpin at stop light again. It might be something in oil pan like you guys said before.I noticed when I put the A/C on the oil gauge went down to nothing. When i slammed on the breaks it must of disslodged it and found it way to the pick up tube.I am not able to pull the pan because of the cross member I would have to remove engine.Do you really think that is it?Or could it be the bearings like other guys have had?Or could it even be an electrical problem like I have read about?Im goin to check the ground some people have done that and found it to be loose and tightend and fixed it.I also have a remote starter on it and that seem to malfunction at times. Some times if I use it the lights inside and out start to blink on and off so dont use it.There are so many things people have said it could be and they have gone through them and it ended up being the bearings(thats what my mechanic friend said it probly was).My friend told me about $2000 for a new engine. Now is that engine goin to have the same problems over time or all these problems fixed on the new engines?Im gettin pretty sick of this problem and I just want to be done with it.

OK...so your oil pressure drops.

Is this when its warmed up or cold or both?

If the pressure drops, and you turn off the engine, and then turn it back on, is it still low or does it go normal then go low?

Reason i ask is my buddy had a similar problem when he toasted his engine. If you have a large thing attached to the oil pump, the pressure drops, if you shut off the engine, that thing should fall to the bottom of the pan, and when you start it up, the pressure showed temporarily go to normal until it sucks that thing back up.

How many miles do you have?

You need to get at least a mechanical gauge from the auto parts store that has decent graduations on it so you can actually SEE the real pressure instead of guessing with the dash gauge. That will let you know for sure.

I decided to try and clean the IAC(you can see my post asking if it is what i took a pic of)if that is what it was.I took it for a drive to see if it worked and decided to pick up a oil gauge sending unit. When i was drive the gauge took longer and didnt jump aroung as much when it started happening. So Im wondering if I might need a new IAC instead of a sending unit?Does the IAC move to a different position when it is in park and neutral and that is why it doesnt happen then?I think cleaning it helped alittle but was wondering what you guys think I should do next, change the oil pressure sending unit or take it back and get a new IAC?

The IAC should have nothing to do with oil pressure unless the idle speed on your vehicle is very low. Since your oil pressure drops when you are in in drive and shows normal when you go back to neutral or park then I assume that you need to verify that your idle RPM is correct.

I suggest checking the oil pressure with another gauge. It may be just the gauge. If the second one reads the same, you know for sure it is the oil pressure.

Ok so today I changed the oil pressure sending unit. The old one was kind of a bitch to get out because of the limited space and all.Didnt have a chance to test it out waitin till wifey gets home.I did notice a small drip of oil on the front of the oil pan.Yesterday I wiped all the crude off of it just to see.Today after driving it I went to look and noticed a tiny little drip of oil had ran down the front of the pan.It look as though it came from where the oil pump is but not sure.Could it be gasket leak or the pump?No clue anyway just wondering what you guys think about it.It must be a very small leak because I dont notice any change in oil level.Maybe this whole problem is the pump?

Ok just got back from testin it out.I drove it for about 40 minutes and it did it only for a quick second and it only did it a tiny bit.I also checked the rpms like the dude was askin me and in drive the rpms read 600 and in park or neutral they read 850.I dont know what it means.Any way i dont think changing the sender really totaly fixed the problem but please give me your 2 cents.Thanx.

It looks like your Idle rpm's are normal. It sounds like your oil pressure is marginal when you put your vehicle in drive. The addition of a guage that can tell you the exact oil pressure would be a good next step.

Oil pressure can fall when the bearings or the oil pump are wearing out.

Oil viscosity can also affect oil pressure.
