Erratic Idle
Erratic Idle
ok I have done a search and believe I have narrowed the problem down to a faulty IAC valve but what do y'all think
2000 F 150 4x4 4.6 liter 5spd 87,000 miles
when coming to a stop the engine rpms will drop to like 300-400 rpms then up to 600-800 rpms then back down and then back up then normal idle
it does this sporadically and more so under moderately hard braking conditions. it does it with the ac on and off. other than that it runs fine. the plugs were just replaced, fuel filter has been changed. it starts up fine and goes through the cold start cycle.
any thoughts???

Sounds like you hit it dead on.
I cleaned mine due to stalling in cold temps ( 0* ) and it went away after the celaning.
You can get a new one for something 80.00 or so ( not 100% sure ) or you can just remove the one that is one there, clean it and put it back on. I took the cleaning it tact from JMC. After cleaning mine I saw that Rob also had a similar problem and cleaned his.
You call, clean or replace with new, should take care of the idle stumble that you are seeing.

You can try the IAC, but it may not be that. Mine will still do it sometimes even after changing the IAC. I have heard that it could be a problem with the oxygen sensors. Have not tried that myself yet.
