Gatorback Belt ?

I went to autozone and picked up a gatorback belt and just tried to put it on. The damn thing seems too short. The part number is 4080990 and it looks about an inch shorter than the original. Did i get the wrong belt?

Look at your belt diagram again a be sure you are installing it correctly...

It appears you have the correct part number for the engine with A/C.

Make sure you have the right belt, If you had a 6 rib you should have ordered the 4060990, the 4080990 is the 8 rib and it will not sit down into your pulleys correctly.

With the tensioner torqued to max, it's still a tight fit and you have to work hard to get it over the pulley. That's the correct belt.

Ditto... the old belt stretches over time. The new belt will fit, but it's tight. The easiest way to get it on there is to slip it over the water pump pulley last. The pulley is rounded and if you use a little bit of hairspray or washer solvent, it'll often help it slip up on the pulley easier.

I bought one for my minivan and the replacement seemed tight for it also. Are these belts a little shorter or do the old belts stretch that much? I was worried it might be too tight and ruin some pulley bearings.
